If surrealist art had to be translated into music, it would probably sound like the entire roster of Ghostly International. Started by a 19 year old dude some years back, they put out what’s called “Avant-Pop” and “SMM”, hit this link to read about the two distinct styles. They also have a million artists on their roster, and quite a hefty touring schedule to go along with that.
Anyway…FREE MUSIC, you say? Yes.
But really, buy some of their stuff. Not just because POS from Rhymesayers is on a song by Mux Mool, but because this is some innovative and industry changing shit we’re talking here. Pardon my french, but it’s hard not to get all hyped up when there is SO MUCH good music out there, yet only the terrible stuff gets most of the money and the airtime. Interning at Rhymesayers and getting involved with Milwaukee’s artists has really opened my mind to pure passion and sweat that these artists put in every day. I thought indie rappers put out a lot of music…but their catalog is BURSTING at the seems with solid collaborations and albums.

GHOSTLY ESSENTIALS: RARITIES ONE is a very nice collection of unreleased content. Feel good album, and a nice complement to this snowy Milwaukee day while I relax at my apartment and try to regain some health. Click this link to head to Ghostly’s page to sign up for their Newsletter and get the free download.

MUX MOOL: VIKING FUNERAL EP was dropped a week ago on Ghostly’s blog on the interwebs. It’s just a simple and small collection of songs that MM has done over the years. See “Death 9000″ for the rap song featuring Prof (Stophouse) and POS (Rhymesayers & Doomtree). SO solid and just fun to listen to. Snag it at their blog right HERE.

Lazer Sword made this mix for NALDEN.NET , which is one of the coolest sites I’ve seen in a long time. I copped it a few days ago and am listening to it right now. Great stuff in there, these guys are good.

Read the post here.

My dude Brendan killin’ it. Not only is he from Milwaukee (now relocated to MPLS), but he’s one of the dopest DJs and nicest guys I’ve ever met. Did I mention he’s Brother Ali’s tour DJ? ‘Nuff said, kids.

So I caught this on a messageboard a few minutes ago…GREAT mashup. Personally I’ve never really listened to Sufjan much, but I’ve heard a lot about him. This is a great combo of the two genres though, without a doubt. Nice slow vibe to all the song, and beats are matched well to the lyrics.

Here’s the description from the site:
Illinoize is a free remix tape put together by Montreal-based producer Tor, sampling songs from multi-instrumentalist and indie hero, Sufjan Stevens. Tracks are sampled from his 2005 LP Illinoise, as well as 3 of his other albums, ‘A Sun Came’, ‘Seven Swans’ and ‘Songs for Christmas’, blending Sufjan Steven’s acoustic guitar, piano and horns with MC’s Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), C.L. Smooth, Outkast, Brother Ali, and Grand Puba.
Tracklisting:
1. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Star of Wonder / None Shall Pass (f. Aesop Rock)
2. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Dumb I Sound / ATLiens (f. Outkast)
3. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy Jr. / Specialize (f. Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
4. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – The Tallest Man / I Like It (f. Grand Puba)
5. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Kill / Any Type of Way (f. Big Daddy Kane & DJ Premier)
6. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Night Zombies / Talkin’ My Shit (f. Brother Ali)
7. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – The Dress Looks Nice On You / Make You Feel That Way (f. Gift Of Gab)
It comes in MP3 and FLAC formats in full and instrumental mixes.

I guess these aren’t that hard to find…but whatever dude.
I’ve recently been listening to TONS of Ghislain Poirier, a super epic producer from Quebec, one of the coolest places in the world (and oldest city in North America, even tough GP is from the big MTL)…These mixes are solid, full of diversity and hard hitting lows and highs. Definitely will be playing his jams for a long time. I found out about him through my interest in Megasoid and all the other Weaponshouse and Turbo Crunk affiliates.
Found these two mixes in the wee hours of the morning while taking a break from homework the other day;
BRING THE FIRE
COSMOPOLITAN BASS
there’s a handful of free MP3s on his site too.

Told you I’d be back. I’ve got a break between classes and in addition to gathering illegal Rhymesayers download links, I’ve gotta blast out the amazing FREE music that you DON’T have to steal!!!
You all know Sixtoo, right? You’ve all heard of Montreal? Good. Weaponshouse is responsible for MEGASOID, LUNICE, ANGO, and HOVATRON. Sixtoo is no more, he now rolls with Weaponshouse and runs things there. Something like that.
Cop Megasoid’s TANK THONG MIX, and Volume 1 and 2 of their badass SPEED KNOTS mixes, and you can get the instrumentals too! Go HERE.
Hovatron absolutely slayyyyyyyed it. Get his jams HERE.
And Lunice drops all kind of love over on THIS page. One of his clips is currently my ringtone!
And HERE’s Ango. Extended family of the Turbocrunk family. No free mixes yet, but peep the AngoSpace.
And no. I’m not really a giant “techno” or “house” fan. But you CANNOT deny that this stuff hits hard. Amazing music to snowboard to. And drive to. Kinda hard to sleep to though.
