Tweetdeck, now with Facebook support.

March 16th, 2009

I’ve been using Tweetdeck for a couple months now on my laptop running Windows 7 and we use it for our MUTV Twitter account at work on our Mac Pro – and no complaints on either platform.

With the new Facebook and assumedly updated API comes the new version of Tweetdeck Beta…complete with support for viewing Facebook Statuses, as well as updating your Facebook and Twitter accounts simultaneously. I use ping.fm for that since it also hits MySpace and other social networks, but this is a really good tool nonetheless. Click here to check out the article from WashingtonPost / TechCrunch.

“Illinoize” – Sufjan Stevens Hip-hop mashup

March 11th, 2009

So I caught this on a messageboard a few minutes ago…GREAT mashup. Personally I’ve never really listened to Sufjan much, but I’ve heard a lot about him. This is a great combo of the two genres though, without a doubt. Nice slow vibe to all the song, and beats are matched well to the lyrics.

Here’s the description from the site:

Illinoize is a free remix tape put together by Montreal-based producer Tor, sampling songs from multi-instrumentalist and indie hero, Sufjan Stevens. Tracks are sampled from his 2005 LP Illinoise, as well as 3 of his other albums, ‘A Sun Came’, ‘Seven Swans’ and ‘Songs for Christmas’, blending Sufjan Steven’s acoustic guitar, piano and horns with MC’s Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), C.L. Smooth, Outkast, Brother Ali, and Grand Puba.

Tracklisting:
1. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Star of Wonder / None Shall Pass (f. Aesop Rock)
2. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Dumb I Sound / ATLiens (f. Outkast)
3. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy Jr. / Specialize (f. Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
4. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – The Tallest Man / I Like It (f. Grand Puba)
5. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Kill / Any Type of Way (f. Big Daddy Kane & DJ Premier)
6. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – Night Zombies / Talkin’ My Shit (f. Brother Ali)
7. Tor / Sufjan Stevens – The Dress Looks Nice On You / Make You Feel That Way (f. Gift Of Gab)

It comes in MP3 and FLAC formats in full and instrumental mixes.

You people better get your A-game going. The album is doing well in Amazon pre-orders already. Thanks everyone.

Buy this. It’s very good. Many of the songs people will recognize from shows over the last 2 years…well now you can listen to them more than once every 9 months.

This is just to hold you over in between his two year production hiatus and the upcoming Fall 2009 album, “STREET PREACHER

Get your hip-hop pants on.

Get it at:
FifthElementOnline.com
Amazon.com
iTunes

There you go. Get your brain moving and buy it. Thanks.

Metric pre-order = Awesome. (& some audio discussion)

March 9th, 2009

Well…the album leaked. “Fantasies” is awesome. This 192kbps crap floating around the internet is just horrid though, for real. Why? Read on.

metricorder

The pre-order comes with the option of 320kbps MP3 copies of “Help I’m Alive”, an acoustic version of “Gimme Sympathy”, and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Nobody Home”…but you can ALSO grab these in 320kbps and FLAC format. This is my first jump into the FLAC format, and I’m using WinAmp and VLC Media Player to tackle them. On my Klipsch THX 2.1 system hooked up to my laptop with HD Audio, it sounds absolutely incredible. I caught some things in “Help I’m Alive” that I never caught on the steaming version nor the 320 kbps MP3 version. I’m in a sound design class right now and have learned quite a bit about what MP3s do to audio (read: they kill it!) and I’m glad I got to experience the sonic joy of FLAC.

If you can grab some FLAC tracks, I definitely recommend it. Hit the Wikipedia page to find out how to encode, decode and rip.

Long story short, open source has contributed so many good things to the internet and computers (Firefox, Ubuntu Linux, Handbrake), and I’m glad that popular artists like Paul McCartney, Nine Inch Nails, Metric, and others are embracing the new technology and running with it.

And NO…iTunes does not support FLAC. Songbird is a much better choice, anyway. Good.
