Ghostly Intl – TWO free albums in one week

February 10th, 2010

If surrealist art had to be translated into music, it would probably sound like the entire roster of Ghostly International. Started by a 19 year old dude some years back, they put out what’s called “Avant-Pop” and “SMM”, hit this link to read about the two distinct styles. They also have a million artists on their roster, and quite a hefty touring schedule to go along with that.

Anyway…FREE MUSIC, you say? Yes.

But really, buy some of their stuff. Not just because POS from Rhymesayers is on a song by Mux Mool, but because this is some innovative and industry changing shit we’re talking here. Pardon my french, but it’s hard not to get all hyped up when there is SO MUCH good music out there, yet only the terrible stuff gets most of the money and the airtime. Interning at Rhymesayers and getting involved with Milwaukee’s artists has really opened my mind to pure passion and sweat that these artists put in every day. I thought indie rappers put out a lot of music…but their catalog is BURSTING at the seems with solid collaborations and albums.

MUX MOOL: VIKING FUNERAL EP was dropped a week ago on Ghostly’s blog on the interwebs. It’s just a simple and small collection of songs that MM has done over the years. See “Death 9000″ for the rap song featuring Prof (Stophouse) and POS (Rhymesayers & Doomtree). SO solid and just fun to listen to. Snag it at their blog right HERE.

God take, God give: R.A. The Rugged Man

January 11th, 2010

R.A. is certainly one of my favorite New York emcees. Incredibly talented and an equally incredible story teller.

Upon readling some blogs tonight I found out that R.A.’s father passed away, who is one of the subjects of his song with Jedi Mind Tricks; “Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story”…

I really felt the need to share the following two posts. Please read them, and value whatever you’ve got. Some incredible stuff in there.

Jeff Anderson – “I Am Snowboarding” – Tribute

November 3rd, 2009

From my boys at MODA3. I remember the day I heard Jeff Anderson died. Mixture of anger, sadness, and disbelief. Can’t believe that was in ‘03. The 2003 Nixon Jibfest video is STILL my favorite because of Jeff’s trick vocab in his sections. Unbelievable progression for 2003.

February 23, 2003 the snowboard world lost one of its greats. In fact, if he was still around today its pretty safe to say he would be the biggest name in snowboarding. Unfortunately for us Jeff Anderson died before that could happen. He did however influence thousands of riders and pushed the progression of snowboarding to help shape what it has become today.

Today would be Jeff’s 30th birthday and to commemorate him over 30 of the industry’s biggest artists and photographers have come together to create one of a kind pieces that will be sold November 12th, 13th, and 14th. These three days will be filled with events celebrating the life and times of Jeff Anderson. All proceeds from the events will go towards the JLA Memorial Fund. You can find a schedule of events and how to purchase prints here.
