Well, my main man Jakemoney (and others) and I worked on the photo and video all day during Soundset. Not the documentary side of things, but the social media blowing up in your face style side of things. I forgot the graphic for I Self Devine video because we were doing about 500 things at once. But all in all I’m pleased with the results and feedback so far. You can click on the tabs to move from video to video or cycle through them on the bottom.
Finally got a little time to bloggerize. Check out this jam featuring Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish
From Jake Uno hisself:
Finally, I’m happy to present the video to my tribute to Seattle, “Home”. The song features MC’s Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish, who have all been big influences in my music. Sir Mix a Lot brought out his orange Lambo and Nate Burleson repped the town and the Seahawks as well. Super Director Zia did a phemomenal job creating the perfect visual for the music and now its time for the world to see it.
I worked on all the social media video, but not the documentary side of things. Pretty awesome. Got to chill with my favorite rappers and producers and DJs. Big hugs to Sage Francis, B Dolan, Jake One, El-P, Toki Wright, Slug, Ant, Ab Rude, Mr. Dibbs, Eyedea, Abilities, Brother Ali, and damn near everyone else that was there. Pretty surreal experience for a lot of people, myself included.
I’ll be blogging like mad in the next few days. We have 2 new Bro Ali interviews, a Jake One music video, and a Brother Ali one as well. Hitting summer hard, baby.
Well, Cage has transformed from his years of…mental hospitals and drugs. New styles and new raps are waiting for us on his new LP which drops in July. Seems to be much more rock influenced. Guess we’ll know soon enough.
There’s a FREE EP dropping sometime today on MTV2…
Anyway. Here’s the link. I love Feist. So does my Dad. Good taste runs in the family. Read the below excerpt from the Amazon site I found!
Here are the things you need to know about Feist in order to fall in love with The Reminder:
- She’s much more than just the torch singer leaning against the ballad with a lone spotlight on her.
- In a past life, she was a shouty battle of the bands teen queen in a Calgary punk band. She’s made bashful indie boys swoon with her brash riffs playing guitar with Toronto rock band By Divine Right and her shout-out fronting of Canadian indie rock genre definers Broken Social Scene.
- She’s stubborn and meticulous about things like the EQ level on the stereo and her long honed guitar tone. She’s been placed in the role of the most unlikely fashion icon, but mostly she’s a tomboy who doesn’t really do make-up.
- She may be able to warble a bouncy foxtrot like Mushaboom that your grandparents wish they could’ve cranked on their Victrola, but she also breathed life into surreal sock puppets alongside her electro-trash BFF Peaches in Berlin and beyond.
- The cult-favoured original, raw demos (the Red Demos) for Let It Die and the Reminder included the sound of streetcars rattling along city streets.
- Onstage she can pivot between being the solo singer captivating a room with her guitar or take on the role of leading a band of three brothers.
You can hear all of this on The Reminder, and in some ways it’s more Feist than anything she’s done before.
So cool. Not a very groundbreaking idea, but I don’t know who else has done this THIS well. His mic should be cut a bit, but otherwise it’s a great idea and I hope it catches on.
* The whole thing is one take
* Audio recorded at the same time its filmed
* Filmed in a room that starts empty, and musicians “seemingly” appear from nowhere
* Has a ridiculously sexy rapper
The story behind Let the Beat Build is long and crazy. When Tha Carter III dropped, my friend Jo Bellino hit me up with the idea to cover the song with a live band, and do a video. That never really happened, but since I already had written the rhymes and the song was now permanently stuck in my head, I decided to do it anyway.
Over the months, the idea just snowballed. I asked my friends at 194 Recordings to join the project and together we applied for a grant help make it happen. As I was looking through the list of film students I knew, my friend Nina Reyes-Rosenberg referred me to the guys at Last-Pictures to me. They ended up producing the whole thing. Chadd Harbold directed and Adam Newport Berra DP’d.
Cal Surf in Minnesota is throwing out this record for free. Some of you might have heard St. Paul Slim on Atmosphere’s Strictly Leakage (also FREE) album.
Um. This thing is REALLY good. Prof is really fresh, I never really took the time to check him out, admittedly. My bad.
Grab the album HERE. I’d post the direct link but these dudes needs hits and views to get his out there. Do work.
