Windows 7 thoughts.

January 29th, 2009

So I’ve been using W7 Beta for a little over a week now.

I wiped my 64 bit version of Vista off of my laptop and started fresh and clean with W7.
I’ve got an HP 6735b small business notebook:

    • 4gb RAM
    • 120gb 7200rpm HDD
    • WSXGA 15″ Widescreen (1680×1050), ATI Radeon HD 3200 card
    • AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-70, 2ghz, 64 bit

I’m running the 64 bit version, obviously. I LOVE it. It’s fast, small, and my laptop stays cool and has yet to hiccup. I’m usually running Firefox, Digsby, Winamp, Tweetdeck, Skype, and MS Word at the same time…all small programs yet some of them snag up resources…not as much in this. It’s so quick and simple. The UI is beautiful, too. Finally, a transparent border and taskbar option! Love it.

As I write this, I’m using Outlook, Photoshop, Digsby, Tweetdeck, and have Firefox playing Hulu in an external monitor…the fan isn’t even so much as blowing. Quality.

I will without a doubt buy this the day it comes out. I liked Vista x64, honestly…I did! But this is a vast improvement and a beautiful and functional one at that. Good job, Microsoft!

…I’m still running Ubuntu on my media center. Sorry <3.
